In the 1920's a new woman emerged. She danced, smoked, drank, and voted. She cut her hair, went to petting parties, and wore make-up. She was a flapper. A word that first originated in Great Britain, around WWI, which was used to describe young women. They were seen as a complete embodiment of the 1920's free-spirit. The flappers' image was drastically different from the "norm", and usually brought her descriptions such as wild. However, the flapper has moved women forward in their path to equality and freedom. Given that today, women continue to earn more rights, this must have been an advantage.
